Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1

Transfer from Kigali to Akagera National Park and Boat Safari

Embark on your journey from Kigali to Akagera National Park. Upon arrival, enjoy a boat excursion on Lake Ihema before returning to the lodge for check-in.

The lodge, situated amidst the wilderness overlooking Lake Ihema, offers a unique experience where you can immerse yourself in the sounds of the jungle.

Spend the night at Akagera Game Lodge or a similar accommodation.

DAY 2

Game drive safari and transfer from Akagera National Park to Volcanoes National Park

After an early morning breakfast, we embark on a full-day game drive experience. You will have an opportunity to get up close to a variety of wildlife species in their natural habitat.

The game drive allows guests to witness the beauty of the park and observe animals such as Lions, Leopards, rhinos, elephants, zebras, giraffes, and various antelope species.

Upon completing the game drive in Akagera National Park, we exit the park through the Northern gate. From there, we proceed to Volcanoes National Park, which is situated in the northwestern part of Rwanda.

The journey to Volcanoes National Park takes travelers through Byumba, offering picturesque views of the Rwandan countryside along the way.

One of the highlights of this leg of the journey is the Crocodile Swimming Pool, a unique natural feature that showcases Rwanda's rich biodiversity, and the Kilala Valley, known for its abundant wildlife population, providing an unforgettable safari experience.

DAY 3

Optional mountain gorilla tracking at Volcanoes National Park or Mount Bisoke hike activity

To participate in the Rwanda Gorilla Trekking experience, individuals are required to obtain a Gorilla Trekking permit at an additional cost of $1,500. Alternatively, participants can opt for the Bosoke Volcano Hike as an alternative activity.

The day typically starts with an early morning breakfast, followed by a transfer to the Kinigi Park headquarters for a trekking briefing. Participants then embark on a hike up into the rainforest to encounter a troop of magnificent mountain gorillas.

Each gorilla troop is accompanied by a 24-hour guard, ensuring their location is known. Visitors usually have approximately an hour to observe the gorillas up close in their natural habitat.

After the trekking experience, participants return to the Lodge for an overnight stay.

DAY 4

Golden nonkey trekking, Volcanoes National Park and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After an early morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters at Kinigi for golden monkey tracking. These primates are beautiful, endangered, and more agile than mountain gorillas.

They inhabit bamboo thickets on the lower slopes of mountains. Tracking them helps acclimatize you to the slight altitude and provides your last views of the park's surroundings.

Following this activity, there will be a transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

DAY 5

Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk, Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Wake up at around 04:30 am have an early morning breakfast or order a packed breakfast this will be followed by a meeting with the ranger guide and then transfer to Cyamudongo and or Uwinka visitors center, to begin with chimpanzee trekking.

Subsequently, there will be a canopy walk that starts at the Uwinka Visitors Center and then transfers to Cyangungu. Overnight at Peace Guesthouse or similar.

DAY 6

Transfer to Kahuzi Biega national park - congo

Cross the border at Rusiizi to Tshivanga, the headquarters of Kahuzi Biega National Park in Congo (DRC) for your lowland Gorilla Trekking adventure.

Upon arrival, you will receive an introduction from the park warden about lowland gorillas, including interesting facts and comparisons with other gorilla subspecies.

Following this briefing, you will join a team of experienced rangers and trackers who will drive you closer to the starting point of the hiking trail that leads to where the gorillas can be found.

Gorilla tracking experience can vary from 2 to 8 hours depending on the movements of the gorillas. Once the gorillas are located, you will have the incredible opportunity to spend an hour observing and interacting with them in their natural habitat.

After this unforgettable experience, you will return to Bukavu for an overnight stay at Nediva Bed and Breakfast or a similar accommodation. If time permits and crossing the border back to Cyangungu is feasible, you may proceed accordingly.

DAY 7

Transfer from Cyangungu back to Kigali

After an early morning breakfast, transfer back to Kigali marking the end of the 7 Day Mountain and Lowland Gorilla Tracking in Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. Your driver guide will drop you at your planned hotel or to the airport targeting your outbound journey back home.
