Hiking experiences

Uganda is surrounded by mountains. The Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon, make up about 80 kilometers (49.7 mi) of the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The two major peaks found in this range are the snow capped and glaciated Margherita at 5,113 meters (16,774.9 feett) and Alexandra at 5,094 meters (16,712.59 feett). The Mufumbiro volcanoes are found further south, with the three main peaks being Mount Mahabura at 4,132 meters (13,556 feet), Mount Mgahinga at 3,648 meters (11,968 feet), and Mount Sabinyo at 3,477 meters (11,407 feet). Mount Elgon at 4,324 meters (14,186 feet) is Uganda's highest peak and is found on the border with Kenya.

North of Mount Elgon are Kadam Peak at 3,054 meters (10,019 feet) and Mount Moroto at 3,085 meters (10,121 feet). There are also morungole mountains (2,749m , 9,019ft) and Mount Zulia (2,149, 7,051feet) to the far northeast as well as the Imatong Mountains that border Sudan.

With no doubt Uganda has what to offer to every hiker, whether beginner or super cool, you will certainly have your share, as if this is not enough most of these mountains are located in some of Uganda's protected national parks, you therefore have an option of combining hiking with other activities like birdinggame drivesgorilla trekkingchimpanzee trekkinggolden monkey tracking, butterfly watch, swimming, and so much more.
