Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, embark on a captivating guided walking tour of Kigali, beginning in the vibrant, multicultural Nyamirambo district, the oldest area in the city. Experience its lively streets, filled with color, sounds, and local aromas, offering an authentic glimpse into daily life. Visit the bustling local market, a traditional hair salon, and explore the Muslim quarter, where Arab influences are evident. The tour is led by a member of the Nyamirambo Women’s Center, a community empowerment project. Conclude with a delicious traditional lunch in the home of your Rwandan hosts. In the afternoon, leave the city behind and head to Volcanoes National Park, one of Rwanda’s most stunning national parks, for the next leg of your adventure.

Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National park
Rise early and enjoy a hearty breakfast before departing for the park headquarters, just a 15-minute drive away, for a thorough briefing. From here, we’ll journey to the starting point of your gorilla tracking adventure. Trek through the lush, green landscape and hills of the Virunga Volcanoes in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. Once you locate the gorillas, spend an unforgettable hour observing them while your guide shares fascinating insights into their behavior and habits. Afterward, return to your lodge in the early afternoon, with a visit to the picturesque twin lakes, Burera and Ruhondo, nestled at the base of the majestic Muhabura Volcano.

Transfer from Volcanoes National Park to Lake Kivu
With memories of your primate encounters still fresh, we head towards one of Africa's great lakes, Lake Kivu, for a well-deserved rest along its sandy shores. En route, we’ll visit the Imbabazi Centre, a touching community initiative that has provided love and safety to over 400 orphaned children after the 1994 genocide. Founded by Roz Carr, the center includes a nursery school, farm, and historic gardens. Take a tour of the former orphanage, learn about Roz’s friendship with Dian Fossey, and enjoy a delightful lunch accompanied by a traditional dance performance. Afterward, we’ll continue to Gisenyi, where you’ll check in at a lakeside accommodation. Relax with a sundowner and dinner by the lake, savoring local delicacies like grilled fish from the lake or goat meat skewers.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before embarking on the scenic drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, a poignant tribute to the victims of the 1994 genocide, offering a deep reflection on one of the worst crimes against humanity. Alternatively, explore the Natural History Museum, housed in Kandt House, the former residence of Richard Kandt, a German doctor, and explorer who sought the source of the Nile River. Later, your guide will drop you at Kigali International Airport in time for your evening flight, marking the end of an unforgettable journey.
